I know this can be a difficult question, but how confident are you of having things running again after 12hrs? I have a OpenStreetMap training session for Cycle Scotland volunteers on June 23 evening. Will we be able to use other editors like mapquest or will it stop all editing of the map?

    thank you.

That is a difficult question. The best answer at this point is that we expect the maintenance window to be twelve hours.

No editing will be possible with live OSM data during the maintenance period; the API server will be unable to accept your request or respond to it with data. Third-party Potlatch instances may still load / start, but may stall at “Failed to load map”. That will limit your ability to use Potlatch and other similar editors.

You could prepare off-line training materials for your workshop. Save an .osm file for your area of interest, and work with an off-line editor.

You can always use the test version of Potlatch 2 at http://random.dev.openstreetmap.org/potlatch2/potlatch2.html . This doesn’t have “real” OSM data, just test data, but you can use it to learn the basics of Potlatch 2.

If you want to save edits to it, you’ll also need to set up an OSM-style account at http://api06.dev.openstreetmap.org/ . Note that if you save your edits, they’ll be viewable next time you go into the test version of Potlatch 2, but nothing else will happen to them: they won’t be rendered and they won’t be copied across to the main server. So have fun.

Thanks for the ideas, I was thinking along similar lines, by using JOSM but good to know I can do something similar with potlatch. Anyway, hopefully be 7.30pm, it will be back online. Thank you.
